Prepress Artwork Questions
How do I send you my printing file?
You can send your printing file through email. If the file is too large, you need to send it by Google Docs, WeTransfer, or Dropbox. And your artwork in PDF format is better.
A. The files need to be transferred to PDF files in CMYK, not RGB type, as RGB color type easily changes color. CMYK will not.
B. The files for every page need to leave a 3mm bleeding place, and every picture DPI needs to be larger than 300.
C. The cover and inside text is better to be separate. One PDF for cover and another for text.
What's a bleed?
Bleed is the area of your design that extends beyond the trim line—for most print products usually leave 3–5 mm on all sides. It ensures that when the printed piece is trimmed to its final size, there are no unwanted white edges, especially if your design includes background colors, images, or graphics that touch the edge.
For example, if your final book size is 210 x 297 mm (A4), you should design your file with bleed, making the document size 216 x 303 mm (with 3 mm bleed on each side). Always include bleed in your print-ready files to ensure a professional and polished result.

What’s a trim line?
The trim line is the final edge where your printed piece will be cut to its finished size during production. Anything outside the trim line will be trimmed off and not appear in the final product.
When designing for print, it’s important to:
Extend background images or colors beyond the trim line into the bleed area to avoid white edges after trimming.
Keep important text and graphics inside the safe margin (usually 3–5 mm inside the trim line) to ensure they aren’t accidentally cut off.
The trim line ensures your design is properly aligned and helps maintain a professional, clean look after finishing.
What Is the hinge area in book printing?
The hinge area—also known as the groove—is the narrow space between the spine and the front or back cover of a hardcover book. It’s typically about 10–11 mm wide and plays a crucial role in how the cover opens and functions. When setting up cover files, always avoid placing key elements in the hinge area for best results.
Which file types can I send for printing?
For the best print quality and compatibility, we recommend submitting a high-resolution PDF file. PDF files preserve your layout, fonts, colors, and image quality, making them ideal for professional printing.
While we may accept other file types (such as AI, PSD, or INDD), using a print-ready PDF ensures the smoothest and most accurate production process. Make sure your PDF includes:
Proper bleed and trim marks
Embedded fonts
CMYK color mode
At least 300 DPI resolution
If you’re unsure how to prepare your file, our team is happy to help you get it print-ready.
Do you provide printing file template?
Yes, we provide a wide range of printing file templates, including templates for books, card decks, boxes, and more. These templates help ensure your artwork is properly aligned with bleed, trim, and safety margins. To receive a custom template tailored to your project, simply contact our team—we’re happy to assist with your layout needs.
How do I prepare files for color printing?
To ensure high-quality, accurate results in color printing, follow these key steps when preparing your files:
1. Use CMYK Color Mode: Convert all colors from RGB or Pantone to CMYK, the standard for color printing.
2. Set the Correct Resolution: Make sure images and graphics are at 300 DPI (dots per inch) for clear, sharp prints.
3. Include Bleed Area: Add 3–5 mm bleed beyond the trim line to prevent white edges after cutting.
4. Embed All Fonts: Embed or outline fonts to avoid font substitution or missing text.
5. Flatten Transparencies: Flatten any transparent layers to prevent unexpected results in printing.
6. Check Black Colors: Use rich black (e.g., C60 M40 Y40 K100) for large areas, and 100% K for small text to ensure clarity.
7. Save as a High-Quality PDF: Export your final file as a print-ready PDF with bleed and crop marks.
How do I prepare files for grayscale printing?
To ensure high-quality results for grayscale printing (black and white with shades of gray), follow these steps:
1. Convert to Grayscale Color Mode: Change all images and artwork to grayscale mode.
2. Use High-Resolution Images: Make sure all images are at least 300 DPI to maintain sharpness and detail, especially for photos or fine line work.
3. Avoid Color Elements: Remove or convert any colored text, backgrounds, or graphics to grayscale. Color in the original file may print as a dull or uneven gray if not properly converted.
4. Embed or Outline Fonts: Ensure all fonts are embedded or outlined to prevent missing or substituted text during printing.
5. Save as Print-Ready PDF: Export your final file as a high-resolution grayscale PDF, including bleed and trim marks if necessary.
How to ensure my images are in high resolution?
To ensure high resolution, use images at 300 DPI and match them to the print size. Avoid enlarging low-quality images, and always check resolution settings before exporting. Visit our image resolution page for more information.
Do you provide design services?
No, we do not offer design services. However, we’re happy to support your project by providing printing file templates and guidelines to help you properly lay out your artwork. These resources ensure your files meet printing requirements and result in a professional, high-quality final product. Feel free to contact us for assistance!
How to count the number of pages?
Counting pages is simple—each side of a sheet of paper is one page. So:
1 sheet of paper = 2 pages (front and back). For example: A book with 20 sheets = 40 pages.
Covers are usually counted separately (e.g., 4 cover pages: front outside, front inside, back inside, back outside).
Page numbers don’t always appear on every page (like blank or title pages), but they still count.
Can you help me modify my artwork?
Yes, we can help modify your artwork if you provide us with your original design files, including all fonts and linked elements. We’ll assist with basic adjustments, but finalizing the design is your responsibility. Our support ensures your file is print-ready, but we do not offer full design services. Contact us for file setup assistance.
How do I set up files for perfect binding and saddle stitching
To set up files for perfect binding and saddle stitching, it’s important to follow specific layout guidelines. Every file you upload to your Artwork tab must include a 0.125″ bleed to allow for full-edge printing, a 0.2″ quiet area to keep important elements away from trim edges, and a 0.4″ gutter margin to accommodate the spine and ensure nothing is lost in the binding. These settings help maintain a clean, professional appearance and ensure your content remains intact and readable.
How do I set up files for board book binding?
To set up files for board book binding, always think in spreads, not individual pages. As each sheet is printed single-sided, folded in half, and glued the blank side to the blank side of the next spread, until forming a sturdy book block. Ensure every file you upload to your Artwork tab includes a 0.125″ bleed for edge-to-edge color and a 0.2″ quiet area to keep important content safely inside trim lines. Proper setup ensures accurate folding, alignment, and a professional-quality finished board book.

How do I set up files for wire-o and spiral binding?
To set up files for Wire-O and spiral binding, ensure your design meets key specifications. Every file uploaded to your Artwork tab must include a 0.125″ bleed for edge-to-edge printing, a 0.2″ quiet area to keep important content away from trim lines, and a 0.47″ gutter margin on the binding edge to avoid punching through critical elements. Proper setup ensures a clean, professional finish and prevents issues during printing and binding.
Visit our file checking setup guide page to learn more information.

Yes, you can receive a refund if production has not started and no customized materials have been prepared. Once printing begins or materials are personalized, refunds may no longer be possible. We recommend contacting us as soon as possible if you need to cancel your order to ensure eligibility for a full refund.
Why the amount you received is less than what I paid in Bank?
In addition to the transaction fees of your bank, the third-party bank may also charge you fees during the wire transfer process. This is because if the bank you pay to has no business relationship with our bank, the money may be remitted to the third-party bank first and then to our bank.
If this happens, the third-party bank will deduct the transaction fee from your payment, so the payment will take longer, and the amount we receive will be less than the amount you paid to us. Therefore, if you choose bank transfer, please ensure that we receive enough funds to complete your order.
