Board Book Warping And Deforming How To Solve?

Warping and deforming is a difficult problem in custom board book.Last article,we had been known why are board book warping and deforming. In this article,we will focus on how to solve this problem.

Solve the problem of board book warping and deforming,we can divided into below 4 parts.

1. Select suitable raw materials

It is necessary to choose gray board or cardboard with moderate tightness. If the tightness is too small, the water absorption of the paper is strong, it is greatly affected by the ambient temperature and humidity, so the board book is easy to deform; if the tightness is too large,it will occur other quality problems. In addition, when custom board book printing, we must follow the grain, that is, the grain of the gray board should be parallel to the direction of the spine, and the two cardboards should be mounted in the direction of the grain as far as possible , so as to avoid the production of deformation and warping caused by inconsistent grain.

In terms of adhesives, try to use white latex with a larger solid content, and prevent the phenomenon of mixing two kinds of white latex.

2. Suitable production environment

The production environment should be kept moderately stable, it means that the temperature should be controlled between 20 and 30°C, and the humidity should be controlled above 45%. From April to September every year, the air humidity is generally above 50%, and the temperature must be controlled at 20 to 30 °C, so the warping and deformation of board books rarely occurs.

From October to March of the second year, due to the ambient humidity is below 40% or even lower, result in the board books often occurs warping and deformation. Therefore, when the humidity is too low, it is necessary to spray a certain amount of water in the air of the workshop to keep the air humidity above 45%.

3. Strictly control all links of production

Before hardcover book printing, the gray board needs to be picked up from the warehouse at least 24 hours in advance and placed in the production workshop. During the production of material opening, shell making, and shell loading, it is necessary to test the moisture content of the gray board before and after this process to ensure that the water content is 8% - 12%.

For mounted paper books, it is also necessary to take out the cardboard from the warehouse 24 hours in advance and place it in the production workshop. Before and after mounting, it is necessary to test the change of the moisture content of the cardboard.

When the water content is higher than 12%, the cardboard needs to be dehumidified until it reaches 8% to 12%. When dehumidifying, the cardboard needs to be fixed to prevent the cardboard from being deformed due to water loss during the dehumidification. It should be emphasized that in each control link, we must test the water content of the gray board or cardboard, and record the test results, so as to summarize, analyze, correct and prevent.

4. Pay attention to packaging and transportation

The transportation is also very important. It is necessary to know the ambient temperature and humidity of the customer's location in advance. If shipping by sea, also need to consider the temperature and humidity of the cabin during the shipping process. If custom board books from October to March of the next year, it is recommended that all finished board books be shrink-wrapped, at the same time,we can consider negotiating with the shipping company to place the product in the bilge position.

Summary, the problem of warping and deformation of board books is a difficult problem for all board book printers. It not only involves materials, processes, storage and transportation conditions, etc. Any improper operation of any link may cause warping and deformation, it is also closely related to printing and post-pressing equipment.During production, we must strictly control all production links to effectively improve the problem of warping and deformation in printing board books.
