Self cover board book
Firstly, the regular board, it is created by hardboard, usually C1S 350gsm thickness pasted together with another same thickness board, make every sheet of paper hard enough, so it is durable for the child, and it normally with lamination to protect the paper. As kids board book usually have size in 6×6 inches or similar like that, even the little baby can hold it,this is one of the reason that it is popular.

Further more, some author or publisher also like to have a hardcover to protect the interior better, therefore hardcover board book was born, some author like it to have padding of outer cover, make it more soft and in high-grade.
And there are more options like to add different finish on the cover, even on the inside pages.
Such as spot glossy, and foiling stamping with different color, or some like adding die cut flap, so when kids reading the book, they can turn over a small card which connect of the book page, but realized there are new things inside, what a pleasure !
More magazine, some sensory material are going on to the book. So make it more vivid, like animal hair, transparent relief glasses animal and labyrinth, hedgehog, spikes, glitter or similar, braille. Or even the mirror and sound bottom all can be add on.
